The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, yesterday 30th April, 2026 received the Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, accompanied by a high delegation, on a courtesy visit to the Service Headquarters in Abuja.

2. The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration following the establishment of an Institute of Migration by the University, which is intended to advance research, policy development, and academic engagement on migration-related issues.
3. The Vice-Chancellor stated that the Institute seeks collaboration with the Service in key areas such as Data sharing and capacity building, noting that such partnership would support evidence-based migration governance and enrich policy discourse.
4. In her remarks, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, described the initiative as a welcome development and a valuable opportunity for the Service. She noted that the Institute could play a critical role in conducting research and generating credible data that would support the Service in policy formulation and strategic planning.
5. The Comptroller-General further stated that while the Service is not opposed to the “Japa” phenomenon, it strongly advocates for safe, orderly, and regular migration. She stated that the partnership will create a valuable platform to sensitize students on proper migration practices, while also exposing them to ongoing reforms and innovations within the Service

The high-level engagement focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the areas of National Security, Border Management, intelligence sharing, capacity building and coordinated responses to transnational crimes. Both agencies underscored the importance of synergy in safeguarding the Nation’s territorial integrity and enhancing internal security architecture.

The Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters hosted a valedictory session to honour Deputy Comptroller-General, Works and Logistics Directorate, Ada James Umanah, celebrating her 35 years of devoted service to the country.

The Comptroller-General, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp represented by Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resource Management Directorate, A. Ayeni, expressed appreciation for the retiring DCG’s remarkable dedication, service, and commitment, to the NIS and the Nation. He further wished her all the best in her future endeavors and a happy post-service life.

The ceremony was a grand celebration of the DCG’s illustrious career. NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE FLAGS OFF 2026 LAW WEEK

The Nigeria Immigration Service officially flagged off its 2026 Law Week, themed “Leveraging Technology and Strengthening the Legal-Operational Framework for a Secure and Efficient Immigration Service.” at the Technology Building, Service Headquarters, Abuja.

2. In her opening remarks at the inaugural Law Week, the Director of Legal Services, Ms Oluwatoyin A Yusuf, Esq, welcomed participants and underscored the importance of aligning the Service’s operations with legal frameworks, transparency, and accountability. She highlighted the need to leverage technology to tackle emerging global migration and border security challenges while upholding the rule of law, and emphasized that the event provides a platform for reflection, learning, and strengthening legal and operational standards.
3. Declaring the Law Week open, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resource Directorate, A. Ayeni, reaffirmed that all immigration operations must be firmly guided by the rule of law, extant statutory provisions, and due process, stressing that technology and enforcement must operate strictly within the ambit of legal frameworks.

NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE INAUGURATES ANTI-CORRUPTION DESK OFFICERS

The Nigeria Immigration Service has inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Desk Officers , as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct within the Service. The inauguration ceremony, themed “Strengthening Integrity and Accountability within the Service,” took place on Wednesday, 5th February, 2026, at the Auditorium, Technology Building, Service Headquarters, Abuja.

2. In her opening remarks and while declaring the ACTU Desk Officers inaugurated, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, reaffirmed the Service’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct. She stressed that all inaugurated desk officers must discharge their duties with the highest ethical standards, adding that the ACTU will serve as a vital mechanism for promoting transparency, preventing corruption, and reinforcing accountability across all Commands and Formations.
3. In his goodwill remarks, the representative of the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Olusegun Adigun, commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for its exemplary compliance with the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) framework. He subsequently presented copies of the ACTU Manual to the Service, after which the ICPC Legal Officer administered the Oath of Allegiance to the newly inaugurated officers.
4. A total of ninety-six (96) officers drawn from various Commands and Formations were officially inaugurated as members of the ACTU. The officers are expected to champion ethical conduct, monitor compliance, and support anti-corruption initiatives in line with national policies and the Service’s core values.

NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE FLAGS OFF 2025 ANTI-SMUGGLING OF MIGRANTS WEEK

The Nigeria Immigration Service, through its Migration Directorate, has successfully conducted the 2025 Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Week, themed “Smuggling of Migrants: Emerging Trends, Realities and National Response.” At the Service Headquarters, Abuja.

The week-long sensitization was declared open by the Comptroller-General KN Nandap pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, ably represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General (Works & Logistics), AJ Umanah, reinforcing the Service’s commitment to combating irregular migration and transnational crimes. She noted that rising organized smuggling, digital deception, and proliferation of complex routes have increased migrant risks, prompting intensified youth-focused sensitization, including outreach to over 200,000 NYSC corps members in 2025.

Day Two featured a high-level panel discussion on “Irregular Migration: Realities, Risks and Collective Responsibility,” engaging stakeholders on safe and legal migration pathways, shared responsibility, and national efforts to curb migrant smuggling, alongside a debate by secondary school students highlighting the dangers of irregular migration.

Day Three featured roadside and market sensitization campaigns, taking the anti-smuggling message directly to grassroots communities. The programme concluded on Day Four with a Sports Day, marking the end of the campaign and reinforcing unity, awareness, and collective responsibility against migrant smuggling.

NIGERIA RE-ELECTED TO THE ICAO PUBLIC KEY DIRECTORY (PKD) BOARD FOR A SIXTH CONSECUTIVE TERM

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has been re-elected to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) Board for a sixth consecutive term. The re-election took place on Thursday, 11th December 2025, during the 31st PKD Board Meeting held in Montreal, Canada.

2. The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, led Nigeria’s delegation to the election, securing this significant diplomatic achievement through the country’s consistent contributions, shared implementation experiences, and innovations in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), electronic Machine-Readable Travel Document (eMRTD) verification, and digital identity harmonization.
3. Nigeria’s membership in the ICAO-PKD since 2009 has played a pivotal role in shaping the directory’s strategic development and modernization. This re-election recognizes Nigeria’s technical expertise, compliance, and dedication to ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices, further solidifying its position among fifteen esteemed Board Members drawn from 107 participating States.
4. This achievement reaffirms the Nigeria Immigration Service’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly in fulfilling Nigeria’s international obligations and maintaining its active role within the global community.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, received the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Annett Günther, accompanied by the First Secretary of the German Embassy, Mr. Markus Sasse, at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.

Amb. Günther in her opening remarks, appreciated NIS for sustained cooperation and support in areas of migration synergy, security collaboration, and other shared responsibilities. She sought renewed partnership in areas outlined in the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both institutions especially in the area of Migrant Identification and Management.
The Amb. also commended the Service’s ongoing transformation efforts, noting recent technology-driven innovations particularly the e-Visa system, which she described as significant steps toward modern, efficient Migration Management.

The CGI appreciated the Amb. for the visit, reaffirming NIS’s commitment to collaboration with the German Embassy in the area of Migrant Identification. She also appreciated the reception by German Government given during her recent working visit to Germany on advanced Border Security and Governance tour.

Nigeria Immigration Service and IOM Deepen Strategic Collaboration On Border Governance, Migration Management

Nigeria Immigration Service and International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration in promoting effective Migration Management and Border Governance in Nigeria. This was reinforced at the NIS/IOM High-Level Strategic Engagement Meeting held on Thursday, 13th November, 2025, in Lagos, themed “Strengthening Strategic Collaboration for Effective Migration Management and Border Governance.

2. The Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, Lagos, ACG EL Anugwa, pcc fsi, fcna, while welcoming participants to the engagement meeting hailed the unique collaboration between Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) calling it a reference in Government to International Organization synergy and commended IOM for their continued support. Goodwill messages from NIS-IOM Projects Donor Agencies including British High Commission, Consulate of Germany and Consulate of Kingdom of the Netherlands emphasized leveraging on the collaboration for effective Migration Management management and improved Border Governance.

The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn in her Keynote Address, emphasized that the meeting represented a strategic opportunity to review the trajectory of NIS–IOM cooperation and chart a roadmap for deeper collaboration towards modernized and technology-driven Border Management. She acknowledged IOM’s long-standing partnership and technical support, which have contributed immensely to institutional reforms, operational capacity enhancement, and the development of policy frameworks such as the National Border Management Strategy.
4. Speaking at the event, the Chief of Mission, IOM Nigeria, Mr. Dimanche Sharon, commended NIS for its visionary leadership and reform-driven approach to Migration Management and Border Governance. He noted that the Service has become a regional reference point for digital transformation in Border Government through the deployment of the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), e-Border solutions, enhanced identity management, and improved operational capacity in combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. He further stressed that the engagement provides a platform to identify operational gaps, capacity needs, and areas for high-impact interventions in the next phase of the NIS–IOM partnership.
5. The two-day strategic engagement will feature high-level presentations and technical sessions on key thematic areas, aiming to produce actionable recommendations and a joint roadmap to guide future engagements between NIS and IOM. This initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s leadership in Migration Management and Border Governance in West and Central Africa.
