The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, led Directorate Heads of the Service to participate in the Ministry of Interior’s 2026 Sectoral Retreat for the Ministry and its agencies which runs from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 8th of March 2026.

The Retreat, themed “Accountable Leadership, Measurable Impact: Reviewing Results, Renewing Commitments,” brought together Heads of Agencies and senior officials of the Ministry to review institutional performance, strengthen collaboration and align strategies for improved Service Delivery for the year across the Ministry and its agencies.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, formally declared the retreat open and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to accountable, citizen-centred leadership and measurable results in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, while the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, delivered the welcome address.

Nigeria Immigration Service’s participation underscores it’s commitment to strengthening Border governance, enhancing Migration Management, and leveraging technology-driven reforms to deliver efficient, secure, and citizen-focused immigration services in support of national development.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and the United Kingdom in the areas of migrant returns and reintegration, bilateral visa agreements, migration management, and efforts toward curbing organised immigration crimes.

NIS, ICMPD, NETHERLANDS GOVERNMENT INAUGURATE MOBILE TEAMS PROJECT STEERING COMMITTEE

The Nigeria Immigration Service, in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and supported by the Government of the Netherlands, on Tuesday 17 February 2026, launched the Mobile Teams (MT) Nigeria Project Steering Committee (PSC) at the Service Headquarters in Abuja. This marks the start of a strategic initiative to boost Nigeria’s Border Security and Migration Management systems.

The Project Steering Committee is the highest governance and oversight body for the MT Nigeria Project. It is responsible for providing strategic direction, reviewing and approving work plans, ensuring accountability, and facilitating coordination among relevant stakeholders to guarantee the effective implementation and achievement of the project’s objectives.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, represented during occasion by DCG FU Nwanneka, mni, PhD of Visa and Residency Directorate, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s Border Security. She commended the Government of the Netherlands for its sustained partnership and support to the Service, noting that Nigeria’s vast land and maritime borders require modern tools, improved surveillance, and enhanced operational mobility to effectively address irregular migration, transnational crimes, and emerging security threats. The CGI further acknowledged ICMPD’s professionalism and commitment to human rights standards, emphasizing that the MT Nigeria Project will significantly boost the Service’s patrol and rapid response capabilities across Nigeria’s border corridors.

International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Country Head of Office, Isabelle Wolfsbruger, in her remarks noted that the Mobile Teams Project will boost NIS capacity to combat irregular migration, migrant smuggling, and trafficking in persons, particularly across Nigeria’s land borders. She further commended the longstanding cooperation and reaffirmed ICMPD’s commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the project through effective coordination and technical expertise.

The Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirms its commitment to strategic partnerships and intelligence-driven border management with international development partners and relevant stakeholders to strengthen national security, and promote safe, orderly, and regular migration.

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, earlier today paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Chief Victor Chinemerem Muruako Esq, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja to deepen institutional collaboration and strengthen reporting compliance.

In her remarks, the Comptroller-General reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to fiscal discipline, transparency, and full compliance with statutory reporting obligations.

The Chairman of the Commission commended the proactive engagement of the Service and its role in enhancing border security. He reiterated the FRC’s commitment to providing technical support to government institutions not only to ensure prudent management of public resources but also in preparation of sound financial reports in line with Fiscal Responsibility Act.

NIS PARTNERS GERMAN FEDERAL POLICE, RECEIVES DONATION OF OPERATIONAL VEHICLES TO STRENGTHEN OPERATIONAL CAPACITY

The Nigeria Immigration Service received a donation of two operational vehicles from the German Federal Police, at the Headquarters in Abuja. Mr. Markus Sasse, First Secretary, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany led a three member team for the handing-over ceremony, this gesture strengthens the ongoing partnership between the two institutions, enhancing the Service’s operational capabilities.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, represented by Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resource Management Directorate, A Ayeni, expressed appreciation to the German Government for the donation. He stated that the operational vehicles will significantly enhance field mobility, improve response capabilities, and support the Service’s mandate of ensuring Border Security and effective Migration Management.

COMPTROLLER-GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS TRAINING AS A STRATEGIC PILLAR FOR BORDER SECURITY AND MIGRATION MANAGEMENT AT ITEPA2 CLOSEOUT CONFERENCE

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, participated in the International Training Center (ITEPA2) Closeout Conference, held in Rome, Italy from 28th to 31st January 2026, where she emphasized the critical role of training as a strategic tool for strengthening Border Security, Migration Management to fight against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons

2. The conference jointly organized by Italy and Egypt Ministries of Interior served as a high-level platform bringing together representatives of authorities of Public Security from twenty-two (22) African countries and international organizations to exchange best practices on translating migration policies into effective operational outcomes. Italy’s Minister of Interior, Prefect Matteo Piantedozi delivered the Opening Address via video message.
3. Delivering a presentation titled “Training as a Strategic Tool for Border Security and Migration Management – Nigeria’s Experience and Perspective,” the Comptroller-General of Immigration explained Nigeria’s critical border realities especially the volatile Sahel region and the Gulf of Guinea which underscore the need to adopt strategic capacity building and modern technology to outpace border security threats and irregular migration challenges. She outlined capacity-building framework, intelligence-led border control, document integrity, human rights and protection, and inter-agency synergy as central to effective border governance. She mentioned further that from 2024 to date, the Service has trained over 24,600 personnel across basic, specialized, and leadership levels.
4. Furthermore, on 29th January, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Immigration accompanied by Deputy Comptroller-General, Migration Directorate, N Odikpo, pcc, held an engagement with the Head, Italian National Police, Prefect Vittorio Pisani and his delegation in his office. The discussions focused on capacity building in specialized areas and establishing a joint operational cooperation framework to address border security and irregular migration challenges with plans for a follow-up meeting.
5. The Comptroller-General reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to safe, orderly, and regular migration, noting that training has evolved from an administrative requirement into an institutional pillar of the Service. She stated that the Service will continue to invest in impact-driven, technology-enabled, and rights-based training to strengthen Border Security while upholding humanitarian principles.

The Nigeria Immigration Service officially flagged off its 2026 Law Week, themed “Leveraging Technology and Strengthening the Legal-Operational Framework for a Secure and Efficient Immigration Service.” at the Technology Building, Service Headquarters, Abuja.

2. In her opening remarks at the inaugural Law Week, the Director of Legal Services, Ms Oluwatoyin A Yusuf, Esq, welcomed participants and underscored the importance of aligning the Service’s operations with legal frameworks, transparency, and accountability. She highlighted the need to leverage technology to tackle emerging global migration and border security challenges while upholding the rule of law, and emphasized that the event provides a platform for reflection, learning, and strengthening legal and operational standards.
3. Declaring the Law Week open, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resource Directorate, A. Ayeni, reaffirmed that all immigration operations must be firmly guided by the rule of law, extant statutory provisions, and due process, stressing that technology and enforcement must operate strictly within the ambit of legal frameworks.

NIGERIA IMMIGRATION SERVICE INAUGURATES ANTI-CORRUPTION DESK OFFICERS

The Nigeria Immigration Service has inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Desk Officers , as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct within the Service. The inauguration ceremony, themed “Strengthening Integrity and Accountability within the Service,” took place on Wednesday, 5th February, 2026, at the Auditorium, Technology Building, Service Headquarters, Abuja.

2. In her opening remarks and while declaring the ACTU Desk Officers inaugurated, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, pcc, mmis, fsmn, fspsp, reaffirmed the Service’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and misconduct. She stressed that all inaugurated desk officers must discharge their duties with the highest ethical standards, adding that the ACTU will serve as a vital mechanism for promoting transparency, preventing corruption, and reinforcing accountability across all Commands and Formations.
3. In his goodwill remarks, the representative of the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Olusegun Adigun, commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for its exemplary compliance with the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) framework. He subsequently presented copies of the ACTU Manual to the Service, after which the ICPC Legal Officer administered the Oath of Allegiance to the newly inaugurated officers.
4. A total of ninety-six (96) officers drawn from various Commands and Formations were officially inaugurated as members of the ACTU. The officers are expected to champion ethical conduct, monitor compliance, and support anti-corruption initiatives in line with national policies and the Service’s core values.
5. The Nigeria Immigration Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to strengthening internal control mechanisms, promoting integrity, and ensuring accountability in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.
